Is moving from NPSP to Nonprofit Cloud an upgrade or a new implementation?

Accepted Answer

It's closer to a new implementation than an upgrade. Nonprofit Cloud uses a different data model, Person Accounts and Gift Transactions instead of household accounts and Opportunities, so records, automation, and integrations need to be mapped and rebuilt rather than simply carried over.

Should every nonprofit on NPSP migrate to Nonprofit Cloud?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. Organizations with a stable NPSP setup, modest admin needs, and no near-term plans for Data Cloud or Agentforce can often stay on NPSP for now. It's worth planning a migration when you're hitting NPSP's limits, need unified program/case/donor data, or want access to Salesforce's newer AI capabilities.

Can we migrate in place, inside our existing Salesforce org?

Accepted Answer

We don't recommend it. Because NPSP and Nonprofit Cloud use fundamentally different data structures, building and validating Nonprofit Cloud in a separate environment first, then cutting over, protects your existing data and lets you test without disrupting daily operations.

Does all of our historical donor and program data need to move?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily everything, and not all at once. Part of planning the migration is deciding what active data needs to move directly into Nonprofit Cloud and what historical records can be archived rather than migrated as-is.

Do you also implement Salesforce for nonprofits that aren't migrating from NPSP?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We implement Salesforce for donor and constituent tracking, program and case management, and board-level reporting from scratch, and we support ongoing Slack-based collaboration between staff, board members, and volunteers.

A standard Slack-to-Slack workspace merge, Pro to Pro, Business+ to Business+, or Pro to Business+, typically takes 60 to 100 hours of migration work, covering DMs, public and private channel history, files, workflows, canvas, workspace settings mapping, user accounts, and integrations.

Timelines vary by organization. Enterprise Grid consolidations depend on the number of workspaces involved, user count, integration complexity, and each org's specific governance and compliance needs, so these are scoped individually after an assessment.
